Oil Spill Remediation Products

How to Properly Interconnect TerraGuard, Versimat, Sheen Devil

MYCELX Remediation Products

MYCELX manufactures the most technically advanced and efficient products for immobilizing oil available anywhere. All products are infused with patented SmartpadMYCELX technology and are designed for specific oil remediation tasks. Every cleanup task from sheen to tarballs can be quickly and efficiently addressed using MYCELX products. The use of these products will maximize response effectiveness, while drastically reducing material usage, water drag-out, waste generation and ultimately, environmental damage.
MYCELX does not sell the typical melt blown polypropylene materials that other companies use which are slow, ineffective, and over the long term, expensive. After years of research MYCELX Technologies has developed and patented technology which instantly renders oils hydrophobic and viscoelastic. Oil will instantly bond to any substrate treated with MYCELX technology, thereby preventing sinking, emulsification, weathering, sheen and tarball formation. The patented processing technology enables the application of MYCELX to a variety of natural or synthetic materials. We are therefore able to make application specific substrate selections in order to respond to the specific requirements of a range of remediation scenarios. MYCELX Technologies has addressed the fact that what is required of a sorbent material in a sheen, where it is exposed to primarily water, is different than what is required of a sorbent when exposed primarily to oil. Additionally, requirements for a surface remediation technology vary by type of oil; as heavier oils have much higher surface tensions, and lower buoyancy, which reduces the effectiveness of materials that rely upon capillary action. MYCELX has addressed these issues and developed a versatile product line to meet the specific needs of oil remediation customers.

MYCELX Terraguard

Instantly Deployable Underflow Weir
Terraguard™ forms a superb instantly deployable underflow weir, excellent for emergency response for use in streams, creeks, rivers and storm water drainage culverts. Time and effort spent building a traditional dirt mound underflow weir can be used for more productive activities. Terraguard™'s dual material composition enables it to block and catch the complete range of spill generated pollution on the surface of the water while still allowing the clean water to flow underneath.

Terraguard™ extends from above the air/water interface down into the water column to stop surface film, tarballs and emulsification products. The slit fingers and sheen/tarball portions always float above the oil/water interface to provide continuous protection during rough weather or high flow rates. Terraguard™ is engineered for rapid deployment and is available in 10 ft. interconnectable units.

    Benefits
  • Instantly forms a self contained underflow weir
  • Absorbs Gas, Diesel Fuel & Oil and all petroleum products
  • Lasts indefinitely and never sinks or becomes ineffective
  • Triboelectrically inactive and will not generate static charge
  • Environmentally safe

MYCELX Viscochips

Viscochips™ are a specially treated natural wood-based product which has been infused with our patented Viscochipschemistry. Viscochips™ can be applied directly to oil spills to thicken light oils to enhance the efficiency of skimmers, or totally solidify heavy oils into a solid buoyant mass. For land applications Viscochips™ quickly form an absorbent dike to contain and remove spilled oil. In addition to absorbing, Viscochips™ form a gel upon contact with the oil creating a barrier which stops further advance.

    Benefits
  • Instantly renders oil more cohesive and hydrophobic
  • Enhances buoyancy of heavy oils
  • Reduces water dragout
  • Prevents weathering and separation on contact
  • Enhances the efficiency of oil skimmers by 500%
  • Viscochips™ are trioelectrically inactive and will not generate static charge
  • Environmentally safe
Usage Directions
Light Oil Thickening
1. Shovel 0.1 - 0.5% by weight to light oils to thicken oil and enhance skimmer efficiency up to 500%
2. Use skimmer or vacuum pump to remove oil

Heavy Oil Removal
1. Shovel 1 - 10% by weight on heavy oils to yield a buoyant solid mass
2. Rake or shovel solidified oil from the water surface

Thickening Oil to Prevent Entrainment
1. Shovel 0.1 - 0.5% by weight of Viscochips™ to oil at the boom site to prevent the oil from jumping over or going under the oil containment booms
2. Heavy seas only increase the effectiveness of the Viscochips™ product

First Response - Containing Oil Spills with a Minimum of Product
1. Spread Viscochips™ along the leading edge of the oil spill to slow its advance across the water
2. The Viscochips™ will thicken the leading edge of the spill even if only a minimum of product is used, allowing more time for spill responders to react. Again, heavy seas only increase the effectiveness of the Viscochips™.
